Profile
My first creative memory was hanging around the playground with a notebook in my hand recording thoughts and making marks on paper. These days I am a freelance writer and graphic designer and it is still as much fun as it was all those years ago on the playground.
I have been writing for as long as I can remember and have kept blogs and journals until associates and friends encouraged me to begin writing professionally. Much to my surprise, I landed a gig pretty quickly with INK Publications. People seemed to like what I had to say and they responded in wonderfully positive ways.
Writing for INK Publications, ArtScope Magazine, and Shoreline Out & About, I've interviewed good people such as Peter Good, Jody Dole, Matt Isenburg, Balam Soto, Aid for Artisans and I've reviewed art shows and galleries around Connecticut. I invite you to visit my blog at lisamikulski.com/blog which discusses art, design and lifestyle.
I received my education in Art History at Middlesex Community College, Middletown, CT and Trinity College in Hartford CT. Receiving highest honors, I was the recipient of the Baird Fellowship at Trinity which allowed me to study art and architecture in Paris, France... That was amazing!! I am a Board Member of AIGA CT where I serve as Public Relations Chair and I am a supporter of NoSpec.
Prior to my work in the arts, I worked in corporate and project management consulting. That experience brings an exceptional organizational ability and an understanding of business management which I share with my clients. I've also worked twice as a Gallery Manager. My roles included gallery management, art selection and sales, exhibitions and installations and all graphic design and marketing services.
I live in Westbrook, Connecticut with my two terrific sons. I enjoy European travel, make-your- belly-hurt silly humor, and I am learning Swedish. Some of my upcoming projects include a major feature article on AIGA and the design legends in Connecticut. I am also preparing to write travel profiles for INK as I visit Sweden and Scandinavia.
